PCC Charging Glitch

Post  Fenix-T on Thu Oct 22, 2009 10:12 am

I just fell victim to the battery charging glitch this morning. I had what I thought was a full battery in the charging slot when the one I was currently using started dying out. I swapped them out and held down the PCC button to start charging. Red light. Good to go, I thought.

I screwed the 'fresh' batt onto the atomizer and took a drag. Nothing. I looked at the end and the light was flashing. Huh? I just charged this one last night. So I had two dead batts. Right after that, I checked on the one in the case. I pressed the button to make sure it still had the red light indicating charging. Nothing. It acted like it was finished.

I repeatedly initiated the charging mode (which would show the red light), but less than a minute the red light would disappear as if it was finished. I tried everything to keep it in charging mode like adjusting the amount the battery was screwed in. Holding the PCC button longer. Nothing seemed to work.

I remembered someone had plugged their's into the USB charger to fix it. So I plugged mine up to the Mini-USB port and the glitch seemed to stop and I am getting the red light to stay on. It's charging right now so I can't say if it's working or not. But, the high pitch squeal coming from the PCC is telling me it's doing something.

Just to note, the PCC was fully charged when it started the glitch.

That sounds odd... scratch

One thing you should check is that the surfaces are completely clean, both the battery and the charger contact points... you can use a Q-tip to clean down inside the charger slot in the PCC. Both the M401 and the M702 are VERY sensitive to clean contacts.

Yesterday I had a 401 atty die on me and went to replace it with a new one I had ready, with a full cart attached....NOTHING.... pale
Freshly charged battery, BRAND-NEW atomizer.....what the hell???? scratch

The new atty and full cart had been assembled for several days, in my Dragon carrying case. Apparently some juice had worked its way through the atomizer and was all over the contact for the battery... I couldn't see it directly but it WAS dirty when I cleaned it off. silent
Put it back together, works like a charm! cheers

Yeah it was me and I have this problem once in a while. I'm not vaping as much because I'm waiting on my juice to come in. below is what I wrote in the other thread.. still worried if I take it out, I'm wondering if other people have this problem or if it's just a very small amt of people with this problem. I think it's a small amt maybe we have a funky PCC??

"Issue:
This is what I did, screw in the battery to the PCC. Hold down the button and the light would be green. I haven't charged my PCC since the last time but all the bars are full on the PCC. It should be charging my battery and showing a red light but it's not.

Okay same senario but now I plugged the PCC to the USB port to charge.
Battery screen for the PCC turns Blue light turns blue. Now I hit the button again and the light turns RED~!. Woo hoo, Unplug the USB to my PCC. Hold the button down for 2 sec and after the light turn green it turns Red. Now it seems to charge.

Now the question is, is anyone else having this issue or is it just me?

I think Plugging the PCC to the USB port reset something and resolved the issue but just worried if I'm out and don't have a USB power supply handy.

I lost a battery on the way to work, so I thought "well lets see how we gonna act today". I screwed the dead battery in and it started blinking like mad. 5 blinks, 5 blinks, 5 blinks. I thought OK what is this about. But I went on and started the charge. Green Light, off, red light, off and its good to go. No problems getting it to start up at all. I think I'll use a Q-tip this afternoon and try to clean the contacts as that might be whats happening...like Nikko said.

Well since the one time...

Post  HoboSSD on Sat Oct 24, 2009 9:09 am

all seems well. Haven't had the glitch act back up. I did have a battery act a little wierd. I swapped a dead battery for the one in the PCC and when I opened the case the battery was activating kind of on and off. Took it out and screwed it on the atty, (I was driving while this was going on), so I'm holding that cig in my right hand, got the radio on (not too loud), suddenly I feel the atty heating up and look to see the battery is on. Wasn't in the wind and I've tried to recreate that scenario with even louder music, but no go.
I figure this is just new equipment break-in, as everything has been good the last couple of days. Cool

Spoke to soon...

Post  HoboSSD on Sat Oct 24, 2009 3:56 pm

just got caught with two dead batteries again. I'm a little disappointed that Revolver hasn't (unless I missed it) chimed in on this. I have not brought it up officially to Revolver in the hopes that maybe the community would resolve this issue, but I'd like to be able to just take my Elite out with me. Not possible at the moment as I wouldn't enjoy getting caught with 2 dead bats and nothing to vape.
I have also noticed that these auto bats are kind of wack. I remember reading post saying that the Blu bats were very sensitive. I've noticed my batteries firing when there was really no reason at all for them to be firing. No wind, no sound, etc. Just a battery that decided to fire because it felt like it I guess. Hobo - You might have some juice inside the battery. I had got a lot of juice in mine today and it was activating by itself and doing the flash-flash-flash like you said earlier. I mean the thing was going crazy. I had the PCC in my pocket upside down and the juice ran in there after some jostling I guess. I'm willing to bet just a little bit of moisture or sweat in there would cause it sitting on the sensor.

To fix it I took the atomizer off the cig battery.

Turned the cig battery up with the LED facing the sky and lightly tapped it about half minute on something solid.

Take the corner of a tissue paper and roll it tight so it can fit in the pinhole on the atty side of the battery.

Stick the paper in the pinhole as far as it will reach. I might have got about 4-5mm inside before I hit something solid.

Now twist the paper around in there and give it a few more taps with the paper in there.

If you have a lot of juice in there (like I had earlier), I had to actually put my mouth over the atty side of the battery and suck hard (just the battery, no atty on). I soaked up about 3 drops of fluid by pulling on it.

I did some final cleaning and now it charges and activates like normal. I haven't seen any trouble out of it (yet).

After giving that a whirl..

Post  HoboSSD on Sat Oct 24, 2009 7:40 pm

I can't say it helped any. Between my two batteries 1 seems normal the other acts strange. If I tap my "good" bat nothing happens, tapping my "bad" bat actually activates the switch. Tapping the batteries didn't seem to show any signs of juice inside though. When I tried putting some tissue inside, the tissue itself would activate the bad bat but not the good bat. However nothing I did led me to believe that the battery had juice inside.
Guess I'll raise the issue with Revolver as the two batteries are definantly different.

HARD RESET

Post  sickdis on Sun Oct 25, 2009 8:09 am

Here is how to "hard reset" your PCC.

1. With battery in charge slot, hold down button til green light comes on and then let go.
2.As soon as red light comes on hold button again for 4-5 more seconds.
3. Release button and wait for red light to turn off.
4. Press and hold button for another 4-5 seconds(while red light turns back on.if red light didn't come on second time.... u may need to do a "soft reset" first)

Here is how to "soft reset" your PCC.

1. Remove any battery from charge slot in PCC.
2. Hold button til green light comes on.
3. When green light shuts off, replace battery into charge slot and charge.

***IF YOU SPILL JUICE IN YOUR BATTERY YOU WILL RUIN IT! use caution when refilling carts with juice and dripping.

Well I"M HAPPY....

Post  HoboSSD on Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:44 am

NOT! As of this morning my unit has crapped out. I used my bad battery last night all evening, and it seemed to work fine. Had no problems with it. This morning when I picked my pack up I noticed a blue glow through the pack. I opened the case and the "bad" bat was activated. (I had unscrewed it fro the atty justin case) I swapped to my good battery and went on to work. Just a few moments ago I noticed that my "good" battery was not activating properly. I tried the "bad" battery and didn't think it was working (it had been on charge), but realized the atty was getting hot.
Now I've got a "bad" battery that the LED has stopped working and is activated all the time, and my "good" battery seems dead and won't activate at all.
Bummer, Big time bummer!

Oh and did I mention I'm quickly not becoming a fan of Auto Bats Mad Evil or Very Mad Mad

Ugh, sorry you're having so much trouble with them. No My only issues so far are that my batteries are REALLY oversensitive to vibration, but strangely less sensitive to suction. I have to pull relatively hard on the Elite to trigger either battery (compared to blu/Volcano), and yet I have TEN blu and Volcano batteries, and NONE of them is so sensitive to noise and vibration.

I've also noticed that sometimes I'll take a pull on the Elite and the battery will stay activated for several seconds after I stop. Like, four or five seconds, presumably until the cutoff kicks in. It's a little alarming to hear it sizzling away. At best, it's reducing the battery charge; at worst, it might be shortening the atomizer life, too.

I really like automatic batteries far better than manual ones... when they work.

PCC drained dry...

Post  HoboSSD on Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:57 am

and I'm charging it now to make sure that the "good" battery isn't just discharged. You know the "bet you thought you charged THAT battery syndrome". But I have seen the normal battery discharge enough to know that this was different. No draw and get no heat or vapor, and get a flashing light, but NO nothing, then readjust mouth and draw and get a hit and then no hit and then a hit and then...nothing.
Trust me I REALLY LIKE the Elite. I actually get a better throat hit with it than my 510. Just hope I've got a couple of flaky batteries and no more.
I understand that the companies consider them "disposable" parts, but I'm not sure that that just means they are so iffy that the companies can't back them with confidence. However I am happy to report that I have contacted Revolver and glad to say they have very quickly addressed my issue.... cheers

UPDATE: as of 1:45 PM
I've got 1 battery working correctly again. The second battery is kaput.
